Midrange and tweeters perform best when you feed them the correct signal ranges, midrange (500-2000/3000hz) and 3000hz and up for the tweeter. Then there is the matter of the frequency. Wired in series will give you an 8ohm load and will reduce your power output drastically. Wired in parallel will give you a 2 ohm load which most 4 channel amps CAN deliver power to, but it will more than likely be too much power for both speakers let alone the tweeter. Most midranges and tweeters are 4ohms in impedance.
